Understanding Positioning

1-3-1

Instagram:

Instagram means Instant camera and telegram, and the camera in the logo is an instant camera (Polaroid). They have changed their design to a simpler version, but the camera has always been the signature.

Instagram has done really good for them self, and people recognize their logo. Their signature is the camera symbol. They have used bright multi colours in an ombre way. This can represent fun, playful, youth and openness. They have used simple shapes, and round edges, witch gives it a softness. This can mean inclusive, warm and welcoming.
They have no monogram or word mark, and the logo stands as it is.

Instagram is supposed to be a social media service where you can share your photos with your friends and followers in a quick, easy and fun way. The simple shapes, bright colours and the camera symbol tells all that. The team that created this app did a great job.

Mercedes:

The car manufacture Mercedes – Benz has been around for decays. They are well known for their classy luxury design cars. They have always market them self as a luxury brand, and not as many other car manufacturers that use low price. Mercedes has created such a big name for them self that the logo can stand alone without Monogram or Word mark.

The Mercedes logo represent the brand well. They have used simple and strong shapes. There is a circle with a simple star inside, and the star create triangels. The simplicity creates a more high end feeling, and it looks expensive and classic. They have used silver metal colour, witch present a luxury feeling. For the word mark they have used a classic font.

I feel Mercedes gets out the message that they want from their logo. I would use words like luxury, classic, elegant, safe, comfort and timeless.

Mastercard:

You can see the Mastercard logo everywhere you shop these days. There is stickers in the stores, and it is always a payment option for online shopping. They have created a strong brand, and since this year (2019) the logo stands alone with no word mark or monogram.

The logo for Mastercard is two overlapping circles. The colours they have used is red and yellow, and where the two circles connect there is orange (the result of yellow and red together). They have used only primary colours, and the colours create a strong picture. The overlapping circles can mean “connection and communication between customer and store”.

Mastercard`s goal is to build global acceptance, recognition and preference. I will say they have done a good job until now, and their logo is well known global. They want to create safety and trust among the customers and stores. The two circles can also mean together, and this creates a feeling of community. Community should be safe and familiar.
