Riddles

The first learning activity for week 2 is to solve some riddles. This activity is a great way to get the brain spinning.

1. A man is replacing a wheel on his car, when he accidentally drops the four nuts used to hold the wheel on the car. They fall into a deep drain, irretrievably lost. A passing girl offers him a solution that enables him to drive home. What is it?

Answer: The answer to this can be so many things. She offers to drive the man to a store where they sell new nuts for the car, and then back so he can fix it.

2. Two Russians walk down a street in Moscow. One Russian is the father of the other Russian’s son. How are they related?

Answer: There are no mention of the other Russians gender, so I believe the other Russian is the mother of this son. She would then be the wife/girlfriend/ex.

The first thing that comes to my mind is that is is summer in these three months, but when since it occurs twice in August it most be the letter “U”.

4. Six drinking glasses stand in a row, with the first three full of water and the next three empty. By handling and moving only one glass at a time, how can you arrange the six glasses so that no full glass stands next to another full glass, and no empty glass stands next to another empty glass? What is the minimum number of moves to solve this puzzle?

Answer: I find it easier to use real glasses with water so find the solution of this, so I did that. The solution for this problem was to tak the second glass and pour what was in it over to the fifth glass.
